How to Ace an Exclusive Interview

An exclusive interview is a one-on-one discussion between a journalist and someone who agrees not to talk to anyone else about the subject until the article is published. It is typically granted when the interviewee has information or a story that would make a compelling piece for the publication’s audience.

When you get asked this question, the interviewer wants to see how well the job and company match up with your own interests and needs. You should try to align your response with some aspects of the role but also avoid describing a completely different job, such as “being an in-house lawyer.”

In addressing this question, it is important that you demonstrate a strong level of preparation. Describe how your experience in your career thus far has prepared you for the role and highlight any key skills or behaviours that are relevant to it, such as teamwork and project management.

The interviewer wants to know whether you are ambitious and have a long-term plan for your career. Don’t be afraid to tell them that you are ambitious but don’t go into too much detail about your plans – interviewers want to hear that you are proactive in your career development and are a self-starter. They will probably be more impressed with your answer if you mention specific milestones or achievements in your career rather than a vague goal such as “to become a senior manager.”
